Down is the natural undercoating beneath waterfowl feathers — it is the lightest, warmest insulator nature produces. Down alternative uses synthetic fibers to approximate that feel. Natural down has superior warmth-to-weight ratio, better breathability, longer lifespan (10-15 years vs 3-5), and compresses more efficiently for storage. Fill power measures down quality — specifically, how many cubic inches one ounce of down occupies under standardized testing conditions. Higher fill power means the down traps more air per ounce, providing more warmth with less weight. Our comforters use 550+ fill power, which is the sweet spot for all-season comfort.

RDS (Responsible Down Standard) is an independent certification managed by Textile Exchange that guarantees down was sourced from birds that were never live-plucked or force-fed. Every step of the supply chain is audited and verified. Only products with 100% certified down qualify for the RDS label. Baffle box construction uses thin fabric walls sewn between the top and bottom layers of the comforter, creating three-dimensional chambers. This prevents down from shifting to one side and eliminates cold spots. Each box allows the down to loft to its full height, providing even insulation across the entire surface.

Machine wash in a large-capacity, front-loading washer using gentle cycle, warm water, and mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Run an extra rinse cycle to remove all soap residue. Tumble dry on low heat with clean tennis balls or wool dryer balls to restore loft and prevent clumping. The comforter must be completely dry before storage. Use a breathable storage bag — never plastic, which traps moisture.

The cotton shell is breathable, allowing body heat and moisture to pass through rather than being trapped — this is essential for temperature regulation. Cotton is also naturally soft, gets better with washing, and creates no static cling, helping the comforter sit smoothly inside a duvet cover.
